Root Canals

Root canals may be required when an infection damages the pulp of a tooth, most often when a cracked or chipped tooth, deep cavity or filling, or other serious injury leads to infection or inflammation.

If your tooth has a deep cavity that involves the nerve (pulp) of the tooth, you may need a root canal treatment to help preserve your natural tooth.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Your comfort always comes first at Cloudnine Dental. Typically, an anesthetic will first be applied locally to the area, then the dental pulp will be removed and your tooth will be disinfected, cleaned, shaped, and filled with a plastic filling material where the nerves were. After the root canal treatment is completed, a permanent restoration is placed on the tooth. A crown may also be needed to protect the tooth.

In some cases, root canal treatment may require multiple visits over a period of weeks. At the end of your appointment your dentist will let you know if you need to return for a second visit.
